How To Import Texts to LingQ

Page history last edited by Helen Burgess 14 years, 4 months ago

LingQ is a great way to study from texts that are interesting to you but that you do not have permission to share (i.e. are copyrighted). You can create lessons from:

  • e-mails
  • forum posts
  • ebooks
  • web pages
  • text documents
  • PDF files (if not copy protected)
  • your LingQ writing corrections
  • paper documents (if you have a scanner and file conversion software)

In short, if you can use copy and paste to transfer the words over from your source to the LingQ import function, then you can use it to create yourself a collection of lessons.

  1. Switch the LingQ language to the one that you are importing in. So if you are adding English texts, switch to English.
  2. Click the "Import" button.
  3. Select "Import lesson" or "Import collection".
  4. You will be asked to confirm the language the new lesson is in.
  5. You will need to choose a title for each lesson, and to choose a type or category. If you are creating a collection you will need a title for the collection too.
  6. When creating a lesson or collection of lessons for your own use, you don't need to upload a picture, or audio. Those are only important for lessons that are going into the library for shared use. See How to share your lessons.
  7. LingQ can automatically work out the level of your lesson for you. It does this by looking at the words in the lesson and working out the proportion of uncommon words contained in it. This is a useful guide, although if you are planning to share the lesson in the library it is a good idea to check that you agree with LingQ on the lesson's level. See How to share your lessons.
  8. You do not need to choose a provider unless you are planning to share your lessons. See How to share your lessons.
  9. Paste your text into the box that says "text".
  10. When you are finished, click on "Save" or on "Save and Open".

Your lesson is now ready for you to study. Remember only you can see it as yet. See How to share your lessons.

I think this wants some screen captures for illustrations but I haven't figured out how to add them in yet.

Could you try to put the line below into the source of this page?
